The time is now 18:18 GMT and the site still isn’t working. Earlier today they decided to put a notice up saying this:-
Due to unprecedented demand for marathon places, this website is currently unavailable.
Please try again later today or tomorrow.
Race Director, London Marathon
What a load of crap. Didn’t the organisers consider last year when there was problems with the online registration systems and put things in place to avoid the problems this year? When it happens again next year (and I’m sure it will) will they say it is “unprecedented” again? Probably.
If I remember correctly the Royal Parks website suffered the same sort of issues when they opened their registration.
Considering there was loads of talk about how there were about 150,000 ballot entries for 2009 and only about 36,000 runners AND they opened the ballot the day after the marathon when all the non-running sofa watchers will be trying to register for a ballot spot; what did they expect? They must of known or suspected this would happen.
Sort yourselves and the site out Virgin. Jeez…
