Slendertone System

I’ve been asked to review the Slendertone System and I’m happy to report that it arrived today.  The good ole Royal Mail delivered it about mid-day and I’m excited to try it out and begin electrocuting myself!

The Belt

On first inspection whilst looking at the unit and the content of the box it looks like it’s pretty good quality.  I mean, for what you would pay for this (over £100) it seems pretty good.  I was expecting something that would require batteries and I would be spending the next four weeks buying AAAs or AAs.  Not with this baby.  It comes with it’s very own charger which plugs straight into the control unit.

Package Contents

The charging unit comes with two plugs which are interchangeable.  One is for the UK and the other is for the EU sockets.  Very handy I suppose if you’re going on holiday and want to take the device with you.  Or, if you happen to leave in Europe outside the UK (I’m grasping at straws here).  The box also contains the control unit which attaches to the belt and provides the ‘stimulation’ to the muscles buried somewhere deep beneath my flab.

There is also a handy carry pouch that you can put everything in as well as the manual which (kind of) explains the programs and how to use the system.  It seems it has 5 main programs and 2 extras which are advanced.  When you first use the unit it starts on the first ‘beginner’ program and works it way up as you use it over time.  They recommend you use the unit 5 times a week and increase the intensity as much as possible each week but not to the point of discomfort.

Charging Cable

So now, whilst writing this, I’m going to stop for a moment and put the unit on and see how things go.  I’ll attempt to write some more whilst wearing it…

Okay, the initial program is for 20 minutes and it is running now.  I’ve got it on an intensity of 20 (it goes to 99) and at the moment it just feels like tingling and it’s not unpleasant in any way.  This might change in a few minutes as I believe it starts with a ‘warm up’ and intensifies…

Control Unit

It’s really hard to describe the sensation of the belt and the stimulation.  To me it feel like vibrating.  I’m curious to find out how others who have tried the belt describe the sensation…

12 minutes left and I’ve increased the intensity to 49.   I may increase it some more as I’m not feeling any discomfort at all…

I’ve increased the setting to 66 now and I can finally feel the contraction of the muscles.  I’m guessing I need to put it on such a high setting because the electrical charge needs to go through so much lard in order to reach the muscles hidden beneath…

Quick Start Guide

Have I mentioned that the pads inside the belt are really really sticky?  I’m not sure how much stomach hair I’ll have left after four weeks…

Intensity setting is now on 75 and it is still pretty comfortable.  5 minutes remaining…

I don’t appear to be interfering with any electrical equipment.  Thought I might ruin my phone reception…

Minute left and I’ve got it on 80…

It’s done now.  Belt off slowly to avoid removal of hair…

Initial thoughts?  I like it.  The instructions said to keep increasing the intensity during the workout and that’s what I did.  By the end I was on 84 and I don’t think it will take long before all the workouts are finishing on an intensity setting of 99.  It’s early in the trial and I’m optimistic about seeing any noticeable change by the end of four weeks.  Who’s afraid of the big electrocution belt?  pfffffftt…. not me!

By the way, this isn’t my Janathon contribution.  I did run today.
