The Battle Continues

My wife and I recently decided (after a long bout of laziness and eating) that we were going to kick start our healthy eating (diet) regime by going on the Atkins Diet.

I don’t know if any of you have tried this diet or not but you basically reduce your carbohydrate intake to about 20g a day whilst eating mainly protein (and fat).  This forces your body to realise it isn’t going to get the carbs it needs so it is supposed to start using your own stores of body fat for energy and you therefore lose weight.  Bollocks.

My wife and I followed this diet to the letter for 10 days (induction phase) and didn’t really notice any weight loss except in our wallets.  This diet is expensive because you find yourself trying to find different meats etc to eat and that isn’t cheap.

So, we gave up on the Atkins.

The good thing is we haven’t given up on weight loss.  The one thing that always worked is just watching/monitoring what I actually put in to my fat gob.  I previously used My Fitness Pal which is a simple smartphone app that allows you to track your calorie intake, measure your progress and track all aspects.  I lost over a stone (14 lbs) using that app previously because it is simply a food diary.  Weight loss is simply eating healthily without overdoing it.  Burn more calories than you take in!

So, today is the 1st day back using the app and it feels great.  I’ve also been to the gym this morning for the first time in a very very long time.  That also felt great and I think I’m in the mindset to get things moving again.  I feel motivated and that is what has been missing.

Have any of you ever tried the Atkins diet before?  If so, what was your experience like?  Did you enjoy the diet?
